History....
The
club was founded in 1992 by two brothers, Tom & Roland
Ilube. Roland provided the cricketing input while his elder
brother Tom provided guidance and the necessary financial
support. (He still does)
The
ethos of the club has always been based on providing a forum
for people from a Nigerian background, or with an interest
in Nigeria, to come together socially and to present a positive
image of the motherland in their interaction with the wider
community
The
team played as a wandering side in its early years, but recently
has used a number of home grounds around London, most recently
in Raynes Park London SW20.
In
2000, in its first year in a competitive league, the club
won the "All-London Cricket League". The club has
since returned to a friendly-only fixture list, more in keeping
with the aims of the club, putting friendship and fun above
the win-at-all-costs mentality required in league cricket
Also
in the years 2000,2006 and 2008 the club undertook very successful
tours of Nigeria. We played as many games as we could, competing
against the Chairman's eleven, Shell Cricket Club and the
Lagos Asians to name a few, we also engaged in a number of
social activities, cricket coaching clinics and media events
all designed to promote the game in Nigeria.
We
intend to tour Africa again over the Easter period in 2009,
Lagos, Abuja and Gambia are all destinations in contention.
